Sitting Groups

Sitting Groups are an opportunity to engage in group practice. The primary benefit of group practice, in contrast to meditating alone, is that you can’t “just get up and leave.” Once you have committed, you are committed for the full meditation period. Sitting Groups provide the time and space to deepen your personal practice with the support of others who are trying to do the same.

A local Sitting Group could be started by anyone, and could consist of a couple, a family, a group of friends, or an open invite to a local community. In an Open Sitting Group – simply a communal period of silence, with or without formal structure on either end – one would have the freedom to practice from within their own framework. Resources for local meditation groups from individual traditions can also be found on the spiritual practice pages of this site.
